Seeking STEM Volunteers to work with 4th and 6th grade students in Gilbert, Arizona

Thanks to donations from the Northrop Grumman Corporation and Nissan, the SAE Foundation is bringing the award-winning SAE A World in Motion® (AWIM®) program to students at Patterson Elementary School in Gilbert, Arizona.

AWIM is an inquiry-based learning experience that brings STEM concepts to life, setting students on a path of lifelong learning and discovery. Starting with the youngest learners, from preschool through 12th grade, AWIM combines practical, experiential learning with mentorship from industry volunteers and ongoing training and support for educators to provide equitable access to STEM.

Volunteers will play a key role in engaging students in the AWIM program, specifically the JetToy Challenge for the 4th grade students and Gravity Cruiser Challenge for the 6th grade students. Your tasks will include explaining instructions and concepts to students and providing guidance and support throughout the activities.
Schools ask that volunteers arrive on the following days:
- 4th grade classrooms:
o Monday, 1/22 from 11:10-12:00
o Monday, 1/29 from 11:10-12:00
o Monday, 2/5 from 11:10-12:00
o Wednesday, 2/14 from 8:40-9:40
o Monday, 3/4 from 12:50-1:50
o Wednesday, 3/6 from 8:40-9:40
- 6th grade classrooms |Time on all dates: 1:55-2:50
o Monday, 1/22
o Tuesday, 1/23
o Monday, 1/29
o Monday, 2/5
o Monday, 2/12
o Monday, 2/26
o Friday, 3/1
o Monday, 3/4
Immediate Need:
- What: Volunteers for the SAE A World in Motion® (AWIM®) JetToy activity and Gravity Cruiser activity
- When: Dates ranging from January 22 to March 6
- Qualifications: Must be 18 years or older to apply.
