Description:

Computer-Aided Manufacturing and Design for Mobility and Transportation Technologies: An Industry 4.0 Perspective

The mobility and transportation industries have significantly benefitted from advancements in intelligent manufacturing technologies, such as industrial big data, the Internet of Things (IoT), and cloud computing. Advanced computer technologies have enabled designers to directly control the production process with the help of computer-based tools, thus creating the possibility of a fully integrated design and manufacturing process. Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based design and data-driven production processes provide strong support for product realization in the mobility and transportation industries—from design conception and engineering to manufacturing, sales, and service. AI techniques such as machine learning and deep learning have been hot topics in computer-based design and manufacturing research for the past few decades. Applying AI-based design and data-driven production processes in the automotive industry can lead to improved efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability. However, efforts to develop computer-based AI to handle big data in design and manufacturing have not been successful. This special issue aims to collect novel articles covering AI-based design, manufacturing, and data-driven design.
Topics of interest include—but are not limited to—those below and must include mobility and transportation industry applications:

  • Industry 4.0 applications
  • Application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Computer-Aided Manufacturing and Design
  • Data-driven optimization of the production process
  • Application of meta-heuristic optimization techniques in manufacturing processes
  • Application of machine learning techniques for Computer-Aided Manufacturing and Design
  • Application of explainable/interpretable AI
  • Intelligent and sustainable Product Design and Manufacturing
  • Employment of Internet of Things (IoT) in modern manufacturing processes
  • Design for advanced manufacturing techniques, such as additive manufacturing
  • Real-time supply chain optimization for the manufacturing sector
  • Sustainability and design based on circular economy principles
  • Digital twins for complex manufacturing processes
  • Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) System
  • Applications and Simulations in Robotics
