Road vehicle Aerodynamics Forum Committee is responsible for developing and maintaining SAE Standards, Technical Papers, and Special Publications related to road vehicle aerodynamics and wind noise performance and test techniques. The Wind Noise Measurement Standards Subcommittee has been developed under the RVAC scope to provide an international forum for industry and academia to encourage the exchange of ideas and progress relating to automotive wind noise, encompassing occupant perception of wind noise, experimental methods and facilities, numerical simulation, and other methods of wind noise prediction and optimization. Participants in the SAE Road Vehicle Aerodynamics Forum Committee include OEMs, suppliers, consulting firms, government, and other interested parties.
Interior Climate Control Steering Committee has published more than 50 documents and has an HS-2900 handbook. These documents include standards on safety, refrigerants, components, testing, service procedures, service equipment, and training. Many of these standards are cited in EPA regulations. SAE ICCC membership includes engineers from every global automaker, system and component supplier, and service equipment manufacturer many of which are considered to be experts in Automotive Climate Systems.
Glazing materials Standards Committee is responsible for developing and maintaining SAE Standards, Recommended Practices, and Information Reports related to safety glazing materials and their use in ground vehicle applications in the global market that establish performance criteria of safety glazing material constructions. The committee shall facilitate the harmonization of safety glazing material requirements through a liaison with regulatory and standard development bodies such as: the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), the United States Department of Transportation (DOT), the Economic Commission for Europe (ECE), the European Economic Community (EEC), the Transport Canada, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), and the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (JMLIT). The committee is responsible for maintaining the ANSI Z26 Standard that is incorporated by reference in the U.S. Federal Motor Vehicle Standard, FMVSS 205. Participants in the SAE Glazing Materials Standards Committee include OEMs, suppliers, consulting firms, government, and other interested parties.
Cooling Systems Standards Committee is responsible for developing and maintaining SAE Standards, Recommended Practices, and Information Reports related to engine cooling systems and components for automobiles and light trucks, heavy duty on-and off-highway vehicles and industrial equipment. All standards reflect the latest technology and industry practice through advisement, consultation and cooperation with industry, government, educational institutions, the public, other standardizing bodies, and other SAE committees and members. Participants in the SAE Cooling Systems Standards Committee include OEMs, suppliers, consulting firms, government, and other interested parties, who assist the SAE Engineering Activity Board through the preparation and presentation of technical papers at national meetings and specialty conferences.
Dynamical Modeling and Simulation Committee develops standards for DM&S based on models that mathematically describe an automotive system’s time varying response, behavior and interactions of subsystems and components. These standards include all related processes, methods, performance metrics and analyses. The goal is to make models reusable and simulation results predictable and repeatable across engineering and physics disciplines, application tools, and the industry. Its activities facilitate virtual engineering of automotive systems, resulting in optimized performance, and reduced development time and costs.
Odometer and Speedometer Standards Committee reports to the Vehicle Systems Group of the Motor Vehicle Council. The Committee is responsible for developing and maintaining SAE Standards, Recommended Practices, and Information Reports related to the accuracy of Speedometer and Odometers. Participants in the SAE Odometer and Speedometer Standards Committee include OEMs, suppliers, consulting firms, government, and other interested parties
Light Vehicle Exterior Sound Level Standards Committee is responsible for developing and maintaining SAE Standards, Recommended Practices, and Information Reports related to the measurement of sound levels in passenger cars and light trucks including pickups, vans and sport utility vehicles. While the sound measurement techniques have remained constant for a number of years, changes in the vehicle powertrain configurations require updates to ensure comparable operating methods for the variety of products. The committee has also undertaken the review and coordination of comments related to the procedures being developed by the International Organization for Standardization's (ISO) Working Group 42, Measurement of noise emission (external) from road vehicles. The committee will also review the technical validity of any governmental regulations promulgated by the United States or other countries where US products are being sold. Participants in the SAE Light Vehicle Exterior Sound Level Standards Committee include OEMs, suppliers, consulting firms, government, and other interested parties.
Tow Vehicle Trailer Rating Committee is responsible for developing and maintaining SAE Standards, Recommended Practices, and Information Reports related to trailer weight ratings in order to create common language, enhance safety and promote uniform testing and performance. The Committee is currently drafting J2807, Performance Requirements for Determining Tow Vehicle Gross Combination Weight Ratings and Trailer Weight Ratings, which establishes minimum performance criteria at GCWR and calculation methodology to determine tow vehicle trailer rating for passenger cars, multipurpose passenger vehicles and light trucks up to 19500 lb GVWR (Class 5).
Volatile Organic Compounds Committee support the development of global specifications and procedure for the determination of volatile organic compounds from road vehicle interior materials, component, and vehicle cabin air.
Wiper Standards Committee is responsible for developing and maintaining SAE Standards, Recommended Practices, Information Reports, and Technical Reports related to passenger car windshield wiper (J903) and washer (J942) systems. The intent of any changes/updates is to better meet the needs of the industry and to help facilitate the development of better products for industry consumers.
VIN - WMI Technical Committee is responsible for developing and maintaining SAE Standards, Recommended Practices, and Information Reports related to the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and World Manufacturers Identifier (WMI) for road vehicles. The committee also makes recommendations for changes to US regulations and ISO Standards concerning VIN-WMI issues. The committee has successfully petitioned the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to promulgate rulemaking to revise the United States VIN regulation.
