Thank you for your interest in the Industrial Lecture Program. The majority of our student members participate in SAE’s Collegiate Design Series competitions, and they are always looking for speakers that might help with the building of their vehicle or plane. For example, "Vehicle Dynamic Testing for Formula SAE" is one of our most requested topics, as well as "Optimizing FSAE Designs using the best practices in CAD, FEA, and CFD." But they are also interested in unique topics outside of classroom learning, such as "Biomimicry: Sustainable Designs Inspired by Nature."
We give lecturers a lot of freedom in what they want to present, as long as we think it is relatable and on students’ levels. You can have more than one topic to present, though we recommend limiting to 2 – 3 topics. We also recommend keeping lectures to about an hour, with time for Q&A. We are currently offering both virtual and in-person lectures, while following all recommended safety guidelines and procedures.
This program is designed to fit your schedule, so if a request comes in from a school and you do not have time within their requested window, you are obviously free to turn it down. If there are certain schools you already work with and are familiar with and would like to speak to them on behalf of SAE International, please let me know first what school that would be, as this program is a benefit for schools with SAE Collegiate Chapters; if a school does not have a chapter, they are not eligible to take advantage of the program (which means you will not be reimbursed or paid the honorarium by SAE).
You must be:
- A current practicing engineer in the US
- An SAE Member (or sign up to become a member)
- Able to travel at a minimum two times per year to requesting universities
- *Please note educators and government employees are not eligible to participate.
