Decarbonized Fuel Utilization in Rail Applications

When:  Apr 16, 2024 from 06:00 PM to 08:30 PM (CT)
Associated with  Chicago

Please join the Chicago Sections of ASME and SAE as we jointly present a technical program featuring the advances of startup enterprise CNGMotive in the utilization of compressed natural gas and other gaseous fuels in the North American railroad market. Major railroads in North America collectively burn approximately 5 BILLION gallons of diesel fuel annually (about 90% of the carbon foot print of any major railroad is diesel fuel) principally for use in freight service diesel-electric locomotives. CNGmotive’s commercial offers address the carbon intensity of railroading in North American at the apex of the challenge.

Significant attention is being paid to reduction of carbon footprint since the end of the pandemic. Today Natural gas in North America and economic advantage is in hiatus as CNGmotive, being renamed “HGmotive” pursues the eponymous business supplying the tenders and technology for hydrogen fueled locomotives being built by the Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) and others. The CPKC program has been reported publicly as well as the CPKC-HGmotive partnership.

In the evening’s presentation we will learn of the technologies employed by CNGMotive in the safe transport and rapid fueling of gaseous fuels (Hydrogen and others) in rail applications as well as HGmotive’s evaluation of decarbonization strategies being discussed by railroads in North America.
