Every day, industry leaders are contributing to the strides that SAE International is making in the world of transportation and mobility—and we want to be sure that those contributing are honored for their hard work.
The SAE Awards program recognizes and connects the engineering community by acknowledging technological achievements at every level of the mobility industry. This prestigious recognition not only allows SAE to celebrate these important innovations, but also demonstrates to industry the weight of these efforts.
“There are so many wonderful efforts to further mobility technology across industry, and we’re honored to lend SAE’s voice of authority and credibility to those who are doing the work,” said Nicol Lachimia, Awards, Scholarships & Events Specialist at SAE International. “We’ve seen our collegiate and early career level winners go on to do some amazing things, and for longer serving industry members, an SAE Award serves as a marker of lifetime achievement. It’s a really special thing to be involved in.
Former award winners include CEOs and executives at major mobility organizations, top collegiate engineering faculty and staff, incredible young professionals making strides early in their career, and more. Past honorees include John Deere Senior Vice President Bharat Vedak, General Motors Vice President of Global Electrification, Controls, Software & Electronics Dan Nicholson, and Retired Cummins Inc. Vice President of Quality and Business Enterprise Richard “Ric” Kleine, just to name a few.
The SAE Medal of Honor sits atop a litany of prestigious recognitions as one of the most coveted in industry. This award, created in 1986, recognizes an individual’s overall contribution to SAE International’s success. In 2022, Alan Nye, Ph.D., retired Professor with the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), earned the honor.
“I have poured my energy into SAE over many years because I believed it was important and I truly enjoyed it. Having this be acknowledged by receiving the Medal of Honor was an unexpected thrill and I am truly grateful,” Nye said at the time of receiving the award.
