Chat with the Expert - Vehicle Dynamics
×
Starts:
Jul 27, 2021 09:00 AM (ET)
Ends:
Jul 28, 2021 05:00 PM (ET)
SAE is pleased to announce a new edition of
Fundamentals of Vehicle Dynamics, Revised Edition
. Dr. Thomas D. Gillespie authored the first edition of this book nearly 30 years ago, published on February 1, 1992.
The book's purpose is to introduce the fundamental properties of motor vehicles: acceleration, braking, turning, and ride. Even in the era of hybrid and electric vehicles, basic mechanics governing vehicle dynamics performance remains consistent as the laws of physics are universal.
You can participate with us during this Chat in 2 different ways:
1. Join the discussion thread
here
.
2. Join the Experts
live
on Tuesday, July 27 at 1 pm EST. Register
here
to ask your questions or share your comments.
The Membership Team will also be giving away six copies of the
Fundamentals of Vehicle Dynamics, Revised Edition
, 3 to random participants of the discussion thread and 3 to random participants of the live chat.

@Timothy Drotar
How can I build my knowledge of Vehicle Dynamics (in addition to reading Gillespie’s “Fundamentals of Vehicle Dynamics”)?
What skills do I need to acquire / possess to be a good vehicle dynamicist?
What are some of the vehicle dynamics/chassis simulation tools used in industry?
Do I need to be a racer to be a good vehicle dynamicist?
@Darrell Hancock
How have improvements and advances in modeling / simulation affected vehicle dynamics since the first edition of
Fundamentals of Vehicle Dynamics
was published in 1992?
How has the increase in on-board computing power for things like anti-lock brake systems, electronic stability control, advanced driver assistance systems that were in their infancy in 1992 affected vehicle dynamics since?
What effect will autonomous vehicles, which were unheard of in 1992, have on vehicle dynamics?
With the advent of autonomous vehicles, is the field of vehicle dynamics in decline?
@Daniel Williams
How has vehicle dynamics changed since the first publishing on Tom’s book?
What challenges are presented by autonomous vehicle dynamics?
What is the effect of CAE technology on vehicle dynamics?
How is AI incorporated into vehicle dynamics?
What are areas of fruitful vehicle dynamics research?
