The focus of vehicle powertrain development is often confined to the engine, transmission, transfer case, and axles. One critical element that is frequently overlooked: how that power is transferred to the ground across diverse terrains. Optimizing tire pressure based on terrain conditions can dramatically improve the tire’s contact patch, enhancing traction, towing capability, and overall drivetrain efficiency. This presentation will cover the history, data and science behind the impacts of tire pressure optimization and the impact on the overall vehicle powertrain. The presentation will go into depth on the challenges associated with incorporating a Central Tire Inflation Systems into defense vehicles and how Parker Hannifin is helping the military operate safely and efficiently in any terrain.
